Highlanders losse in dying stages

15/05/2008 9:45:00 AM
Division 2 played East Armidale on Saturday with the home side starting off very sloppy and looked a different side from the previous week as the visiting side constantly put the Highlanders on the back foot by dominating possession.

Ben Norris and Preston Parkes worked hard and defended well in the backs with the help of Craig Dawson and Shane Walmsley.

In the 25th minute, East Armidale opened the scoring with a penalty shot after a Glen Innes defender brought down an Easts attacker inside the 18 yard box.

For the remainder of the half the Highlanders lifted and Dylan Ferris, Luke Martin and Tim Levy made several attempts on goal, only to be denied by the opposition keeper.

After the restart, the Highlanders came out firing and equalised in the 50th minute after Ferris was brought down in the box and made no mistake of converting the opportunity, taking the score to 1-1.

Ferris scored his second goal minutes later to gain a 2-1 advantage but this was short lived as the visitors equalised soon after. Possession oscilated with both teams looking to take the lead.

With 10 minutes remaining, the Highlanders scored their third goal with Tim Levy drilling the ball past the keeper, Highlanders taking the lead 3-2.

The final five minutes was very sloppy for the Highlanders as fatigue set in and let the visitors in for two more goals, the Highlanders going down 4-3.

Tim Levy was named Player’s player for the match.

Division 1 and Division 2 play at home this week against UNE kicking off at 1:00pm at Wilson Park.
