4/09/2008 10:40:00 AM
Well the men have finally made it to the big one, the grand final, after they ran away with an impressive win over Moree in the final at Uralla last weekend, 28 points to 12.

The Glen Innes 14s are the only team to represent Glen Innes in the Minor League grand finals this weekend. Glen Innes host the grand final day on Saturday, which is due to kick off at 9:30am. The under 8s will play a round robin competition, playing four games each. The under 10s will see Moree North kick off against Inverell West at 10:30am. Inverell West will take on Inverell North in the under 12s match at 11:30am. At 1:30, Inverell West play Armidale in the 16s game and the big one, at 12:30, the under 14s Glen Innes side play Warialda for the title.

Full canteen facilities will operate for the day. The 14s are calling for supporters to cheer them on in their home grand final.

A presentation day for all players will be held later on into the month. Details will be provided at a later date.

In the final against Moree last weekend, the 14s forwards had a huge game. Dillon Watson once again having a blinder with huge runs, Sam Schiffman played his usual brand of football, especially with tonsillitis. He was a tough customer all day. Brendon Jillett was everywhere. He ran and defended like a forward and chased like a back. Max Crossley had a great game in the forwards, Jay Gallagher well the name says it all great footballer great game.

Jai Perkins and Ace Hollis came off the bench and really put the pressure on from the get go and really proved their place on the paddock. Alex Alt had a great game at hooker diving on loose dropped balls and really controlling the ruck well, as did Alex Mossman. Mossman had a great come back this year and played some of his best football on the weekend. Mathew “Foliti” Shaw he always makes a huge impact off the bench with some huge one out plays.

The back line was just magical on the weekend. Harley Wright had a blinder, his kicking game, passing game and the day for him was perfect. Jay “full throttle” Wilson was just that flat out in whatever he did and came up with some huge hits. Damien Hamell improves with every touch of the ball and has really found his feet this season. Jesse Mossman has had a remarkable season and is a great half back, Rhyton Compton played a great game on the wing as did Martin Newsome they are really great defenders and in attack they are both very sharp players. Patrick Hogan has the heart of a lion and he keeps impressing every game, no fear just a great reliable full back .

There also has to be a big mention of the under 12s players who step up to give a very strong bench. They all had a run on the weekend. Standing up in the grand final this weekend are Kerrod Williamson, Tom Rumming, Jamie Hogan and Pearce Hayden.

The 14s team have been in training since February and are ready for the weekends fixture. A run in the grand final caps off a great year that saw just one loss and a draw.

Their commitment to each other as friends and as team mates is astounding. They are a great bunch of men and they all have big futures in front of them.

Good luck on the week end boys play hard , play fair and remember you are Magpies.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
