Glen’s Under 18 competition leaders defeated Tingha by 40 - nil last weekend.
Although, in a repeat of the trend from last week’s win over Warialda by the same score, their intensity slackened off in the second half, after running to a 24 - 0 lead at the break.
Tingha had most of the early possession and attacked strongly for long periods. Finally, on only their second time in possession in Tingha’s danger zone, Glen scored, Ehsman’s bomb was beautifully taken by Steve Reynolds and his quick pass to Andrew Grob put the winger over in the corner. Jake Turner’s difficult kick was spot on and Glen led 6 - 0.
Mark Mabbott made a tremendous sixty metre break but was caught just metres short of the line. Glen spun the ball along the line and Joel Jackson forced his way over in the opposite corner. Glen 10 - 0.
Glen’s third try in quick succession came when Reynolds leaped brilliantly to gather Jackson’s bomb and race across the line. Turner converted, Glen 16 - 0.
The Magpies were again forced to defend for a lengthy period but they finally broke through and Jackson was again too strong from close range. Glen 18 - 0. Replacement Tim Croft made a seventy metre break and Glen kept the ball alive. Ehsman went to the blind, dummied through a gap and found centre Adrian Wadley in support for a fine try in the corner. Glen 24 - 0 at the break.
The second half started with a string of handling errors from both sides and it took sixteen minutes for the first points to come. Jackson made a superb run from dummy half 45 metres out, pushed off several defenders before scoring in the corner. Turner added the extras, Glen 30 - 0.
From the kick-off Adam McPhillips powered forty metres in a searching run. Lock Tom McCarney made a nice little run from dummy half before Jackson charged up in support and scored his fourth try. Turner converted with another good kick, Glen 36 - 0.
Jackson made another long run before sending a superb offload to McCarney who completed the scoring.
