Glen hosts group major semifinals

28/08/2008 11:32:00 AM
The Group 19 rugby league world will converge on Mead Park on Sunday when Glen Innes hosts the 2008 major semi-finals.

Local league fans are in for a treat with Glen Innes teams involved in three of the four semi finals.

The action starts at 10am when minor premiers Inverell meet second placed Glen in the Ladies OzTag match. Inverell lost just one match for the season, against Glen at Mead Park early in the season. So this looks like a great semi final for the crowd.

Glen’s unbeaten Under 18s team also clash with Inverell, starting at 11.15am. Some magnificent Under 18s games have been played over the years between these two clubs and Sunday’s match could be right up there with the best.

Minor premiers in President’s Cup, Tingha, who lost just one match, will clash with Armidale Rams in what promises to be an entertaining match, commencing at 12.45pm.

At 2.45pm, the A Grade kick-off will bring together minor premiers, the Glen Innes Magpies, and the only team to beat them in 2008, Tingha. If last Sunday’s match is any indication, this game will be an absolute ripper.

Gates open at 8.30am and patrons are reminded that no alcohol is to be brought into Mead Park. Security guards will search all cars and eskies to ensure compliance with this policy. Security will also be on duty at the Club House and specially designated areas will be in place for those wishing to consume alcohol during the afternoon.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
