Fledglings remain top of the table

Glen’s unbeaten Under 18 team continued on their winning way with a 92 - 5 demolition of last placed Uralla.

Joel Jackson’s first two touches of the ball resulted in tries in the second and fourth minutes but Glen had to withstand some strong attacking play from Uralla for several minutes. Only determined tackling kept their slate clean.

Tom McCarney then asserted himself with a strong thirty metre run for his fourth try and Matt Crowhurst scored from the scrum base soon after, Glen led by 22.

Jackson (18th minute), McCarney (20th), Jackson again (21st), Mark Mabbott (28th) and Michael Adams (30th) all scored before half time which was reached with Glen leading 50 to nil. Jake Turner added to the half century tall with seven goals from nine attempts.

The second half continued in much the same manner with Glen posting tries every few minutes.

Steve Reynolds (2nd minute) got a nice try early on while Sam Kiehne was rewarded for a solid game with a four pointer. James Ryan scored as well but the remainder of the half was dominated by McCarney who got three more tries giving him four for the match and Crowhurst who added two more to his first half try.

Turner finished with fourteen goals and played solidly throughout.

Glen’s match against Armidale on Saturday promises to be a good tussle. In their last encounter, the Rams scored five tries to four but could not kick a goal and went down in a close match after Glen built up a big first half lead.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
