The race will be on this Sunday as the annual shearers biathlon again takes place.
Teams of two will line up at the Glen Innes saleyards to test their speed against other Glen Innes competitors. Organiser Bob Dent explained that the event is based on the distances shearers had to cover during the Depression to maintain a living.
“The event is for teams of two who share a bike to cover distances of 10 and 21km. The event was started by Jim Stewart based on the depression years when shearers would go from one shed to the other often alternating between two of them,” he said.
“All those entering need is running shoes, a bike and a lot of energy.”
All ages are welcome to participate with any combination of team allowed whether they are a family team out for fun or a competitive team looking to take the prize.
It will be used as a warm up for the Glen Gallop in November for many with the race to begin at 9.30am on Sunday.
