New look for indoor sports centre

4/08/2008 6:16:00 PM
Last Wednesday morning Glen Insports Arena welcomed its new proprietors Phil and Jacynta Shannon.

The couple have taken over from Shawn Mepham.

When asked what interested them in running an indoor sports centre especially given that they both have other employment, the couple replied we are here every night of the week playing anyway.

Insports will continue the same basic format with improvements. The indoor arena will introduce a three on three Basketball and soccer competition and will cater for teams in an effort to reduce forfeits by allowing for flexible draws and competition lengths. The centre is also hoping to further develop junior sport in conjunction with local schools.

The Insports Arena will undergo a facelift with new signage out the front and a revamp inside. The centre will introduce a sports software program for umpires and players, which include a touch screen and plasma screen, that will allow for advertisement for sponsors. Insports will also take the competition from indoors to cyberspace with the introduction of a website so players can keep up-to-date with all the latest results.

“It is going to be a challenge to get it up and running back to where it used to be,” Mr Shannon said. “It may take us a few weeks to get it running the way we want it,”

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
