Local netballers top 15 in the state

22/07/2008 9:18:00 AM
Two Glen Innes teams travelled to Newcastle, on the first weekend of the school holidays, to participate in the State Age Netball Championships. The girls played 24 games in three days.

The 14 years team won 12 games, drew 2 and lost 4 games by just one or two goals. Their biggest margin was a loss of 8 goals. The 13 years team won 11 games and drew 1 game.

The 14 years girls finished 12th out of 30 teams and the 13 years girls finished 15th out of 30 teams. This is the best effort the 13s and 14s have achieved, a credit to them for their hard training and commitment.

All girls played extremely well, this is a great effort for a small town competing against many larger cities and regions. Two of our 15 year old Glen Innes girls played for Armidale during the championships and they too played very well.

We will continue training until the end of the season, preparing for two more carnivals and setting our sights on next season with state age championships at Blacktown, Sydney. Any interested girls aged 12, 13, 14 or 15 in 2009 are invited to attend training at the Basketball Stadium from 3:45 to 5:15 on Tuesdays or ring Julie on 6732 5201.
