Ladies slip to third

19/08/2008 10:35:00 AM
Glen’s Ladies OzTag team was defeated 6 - 5 by last-placed Guyra and again failed to produce the spark which highlighted their play for most of the season.

The game was close throughout but Guyra scored the first try and Glen was always playing catch-up. Guyra’s Emma Gillogly opened the scoring in the second minute, but Glen’s Aleesha Davis evened proceedings three minutes later.

Hayley Ford and Heidi Hoffman got Guyra away to a 3 - 1 advantage before Courtney Grange got one of her long-range specials for 3 - 2. Then Rebecca Stevens scored in the 18th minute to level at 3 - all but Guyra came back in the next minute through Cath Richardson and led 4 - 3 at the break.

Emma Burey took Guyra to a 5 -3 advantage immediately after the re-start but Aleesha Davis got her second in the eight minute and Glen again trailed by a single try. In the final nine minutes, Emma Gillogly got her second for Guyra and Courtney Grange scored the second of her double for Glen but Guyra held on against a determined late charge from Glen to record a meritorious victory.
