Leading try scorer Courtney Grange scored five great tries as the ladies OzTag team recorded a fine 8 - 5 win over third-placed Warialda.
The match was very tight early on with Grange opening the scoring with a long run to give Glen the early advantage. Stacie Marchant made some great tags while Grange and Megan Fuller both went close to scoring but it was Warialda who got the other two tries in the first half to hold a narrow advantage at half-time.
Courtney Grange grabbed two quick tries after the break as Glen really toughened up and worked hard in defence to quell some fine attacking raids from the home team. Glen’s 3 - 2 advantage didn’t last long as Warialda hit back to level the scores again.
Grange scored again to give Glen the lead and then Marchant finished off for a superb Glen try featuring good support play and crisp passing. Amanda Newberry then sprinted clear from half way to give Glen a 6 - 3 lead.
Warialda kicked off deep into Glen’s territory where Courtney Grange gathered the ball behind the try line and beat several defenders in a length of the field try for a 7 - 3 lead.
Kirsty Grange saved a certain try but Warialda scored soon after but Gen hit straight back when a fine pass from Megan Fuller put Breanna Grange in for Glen’s eighth try. Warialda scored a late try but the Glen girls had secured an impressive victory in probably their best performance of the season.
Courtney Grange, Stacie Marchant, Megan Fuller, Amanda Newberry and Kirsty Grange all played well for Glen.
The ladies round 14 win puts them clear in second place on 18 from third placed Warialda on 15 and chasing competition leaders Inverell on 22.
