GIHS second in the region

30/07/2008 5:49:00 PM
A young Glen Innes High School open netball team faced up against teams from around the region at the Glen Innes courts on Tuesday to produce a promising runner up finish.

The team did not possess one senior student with eight year 10s, two year 9s and two year 8s and came up against much more experienced players.

Victories against Tenterfield, Armidale and a particularly impressive Inverell High School led them to a final against the dominant Duval High School. Duval had dominated the carnival throughout the day and continued this trend against Glen Innes with a 41-13 victory.

Glen Innes coach Katie Rossington said despite the convincing loss to Duval the future looked bright for the team who will be together for the next two years.

“Duval had a team of year 12s and our team was much younger. We are preparing the team for domination of the north west region in the future,” she said.

“I was very proud of their efforts, particularly against the Inverell team who really were the team to beat. The girls came on straight after a hard match against Inverell that they won 24-21 where as Duval had a bye prior to the last match.”

The Glen Innes High School team consisted of Fiona, Williamson, Belinda Southgate, Natalie Whan, Katie Grob, Allira Searle, Lauren Thomas, Courtney Byrne, Jessica Stapleton, Rachel Williams, Alicia Byrnes, Evie Core and Lucy Munro who will hope to go one further in next year’s playoff after their already high class performance on Tuesday.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
