Ellis crowned cool 100 champion

Flakes of snow were falling as the last of 58 shooters completed their 100 Targets at the annual Guyra Gun Club “Cool 100” on Sunday 27 July. Shooters travelled from the north of the State and southern Queensland to compete for sashes and cash prizes at the Guyra Gun Club grounds.

Three shooters, Brad Henshall, Dale Ellis and Geoff Hunter (Tamworth) recorded the 100/100 possible and went into a shoot off to determine the 2008 “Cool 100” Champion. After a further 15 targets, Dale Ellis from Guyra was being congratulated on his first “Cool 100” with an impressive 115/115. Brad Henshall, the Guyra vice-president, was awarded the AA Grade first prize with 114/115. John Sleightholme (Tamworth) scored 99/100 to take the AA Grade second place. Geoff Hunter shot 113/114 to win first place in A Grade and Wayne Dunbar (Hay) 99/100 took A Grade second. The Moree club’s Terry Haynes recorded 97/100 to win B Grade and Kerry Miller (Taree) shot 92/100 to take B Grade second. Mark Drain (Tamworth) shot 95/100 to win C Grade and Wayne Johanssen (Dorrigo) collected second place with 91/100.

The day’s other event was the 50 Target Winter Championship, a medley of 25 Point Score and 25 Double Barrel. Brad Henshall and Mark McInnes, (Narrabri,) contested a lengthy shoot off with Henshall prevailing to win overall (199/200.) Mark McInnes recorded 197/200 to win AA Grade and John Sleightholme scored 138/140 to take second. Wayne Dunbar won A Grade with a score of 139/140. Tim Bourke (Guyra) shot 136/140 to take second. Kevin Pearce from Tamworth recorded 93/100 for the B Grade spoils and Kerry Miller posted 92/100 to secure second in B Grade. Wayne Johanssen won C Grade with 87/100 and Tim Dale (Wagga) took 84/100 for second.

The day’s Overall High Gun was won by Brad Henshall with his remarkable score of 200/200. The other High Gun winners were as follows: AA Grade - John Sleightholme 199/200; A Grade - Wayne Dunbar 198/200; B Grade - Kerry Miller 184/200; C Grade - Wayne Johanssen 178/200; Veterans - Geoff Baxter (Guyra) 194/200; Ladies - Tammy Kelly 185/200; Juniors - Joseph Edmonds (Guyra) 175/200.

Guyra’s Club Skeet and 5 Stand will be held on Sunday August 10 and the next Down The Line and Trench events will be on Saturday August 30.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
