The Glen Innes Anglers Club held an extremely successful salt water comp at Minnie Water over the weekend of July 19-20.

King Neptune finally shone on the club putting on great seas, very little wind and hungry fish. On Saturday the leather jacket where in plague proportions in any water over 150foot, Brad and Graham Chard caught a ship load of them up to 2kg,they also got on to a nice haul of parrot fish with Brad weighing in 14 fish and Graham 12.

Curly Mather also had a great day weighing in nine quality fish including three pearl perch and a parrot fish all weighing over 2kg. Danny Wilson also got 12 nice fish.

John Fenton had a smile from ear to ear when he finally got a chance to weigh some fish in again. Although Cath Ellis did round him up again for the weekend.

On Sunday it was another magnificent day with Brad Chard weighing another eight fish, Danny Wilson and Dave Watson had great days weighing 8.8kg and 9kg respectively. One of Danny’s was a 4.5kg cobia, Judy Wilson on her maiden trip outside since a back operation also landed a nice 3.8kg cobia.

Chopper got on the board with a 1.57kg teraglin. But the day belonged to Curly when he landed a 5.3kg snapper and a 2.66kg pearly to take out the overall winner of the weekend. Judy Wilson won the ladies with Zac Lynn the juniors.

Zac came back from the Evans Head Classic with thousands of dollars worth of Shimano gear for his efforts. Competitors had to catch and release a snapper on soft plastic lure, film the whole event, then the film was judged by Shimano representatives for how the fish were treated.

Zac also landed a 6.115kg snapper.

The next saltwater comp will be held at Minnie Water on August 16-17.

The club will be holding its presentation night on Saturday August 23 at the New England Club. It will be for fishing club members $50 double $30 single; non-members $70 double $45 single. The evening will include seafood and mixed hot meal plus refreshments all inclusive. Don’t forget the great meat raffles and pick the joker now at $1300 every Friday night.

With the presentation night on August 23,the fishing season will end on the August 22.
