Glen Innes has seen fitness centres open and close in town over the years. However Novocastrian Joe Dunnage and his wife Lynn believe their appointment only fitness centre opening in Bourke Street has the right ingredients to be a success, as it is focused on personal training and affordability.
With over 50 years of experience in the fitness and physical education industry well known Newcastle fitness trainer Mr Dunnage has an impressive resume. A high School Physical education teacher for 15 years, physical education lecturer at the University of Newcastle for eight years and Head conditioner and Strength Coach for the Newcastle Knights for eight years. Mr Dunnage has also trained many elite sportspeople spanning multiple disciplines from Ironmen, to an Australian Kayak champion, a world ranked tennis player and many squash champions.
This is the fourth personal fitness training centre the couple have established, with the other three in the Newcastle area. The fitness centres focus on personal training in small groups.
“Its not a commercial gym,” Mr Dunnage said. “Its not a walk in ‘train’ when you like everyone has to book and everyone is put through a personal assessment before commencing training.”
The couple moved to town two weeks ago. Mrs Dunnage had previously lived in Glen Innes for a number of years, where she owned a bed and breakfast.
“I went down to Newcastle for work. I fell in love and got married. I have finally persuaded Joe to come back here with me,” Mrs Dunnage said. “When we arrived it was so cold and I thought... I’m home.”
Joe and Lynn Dunnage’s Fitness Training Centre Glen Innes will be open four days per week, Monday to Thursday from 9am until 7pm. Sessions last one hour and are fully supervised. The couple said they recognise that a small gym in a country town should not attract city prices. The Fitness centre offers a range of payment options from pay as you train, monthly fees and special offers, all with no join up fee. Mrs Dunnage also offers clients nutritional advice through her philosophy of eating program.
“I can’t emphasis enough the need to be determined. Just because you go to the gym it doesn’t mean the results are automatic, when you go to the gym you have got to put the effort in,” Mr Dunnage said.
Joe and Lynn Dunnage’s Fitness Training Centre Glen Innes will open on Monday August 11.
