The Glen Innes Anglers Club held a catch, measure and release competition at Pindari Dam on November 1 and 2.
Unfortunately the member numbers were down. But the fish were on the bite with six fisho’s catching and releasing 38 top quality fish mainly yellowbelly. Two of our members managed none for the weekend but we won’t mention any names hey Glen.
The longest fish for the weekend was a 59cm yella caught by Cath Ellis. A 4.6 kg yella caught by Curly Mather was the heaviest. We all agreed it was great catching the fish but felt even better releasing them to hopefully catch another day.
Tony Stibbard took out the overall winner’s prize for the weekend with 10 fish measuring just under 4.5metres. John Fenton also had a great catch of eight fish at 3.6metres. Cath Ellis took out the ladies with seven fish at 3.58metres, Cory Mather won the sub jnr with three fish at 1.3metres and Curly Mather took out the secret length.
Following the success of the competition and the eating quality of the fish, not being as good as it should be because of the algae in the dams, we’ve decided our next competition will also be a catch, measure and release to be held at Copeton dam on the Howell side on November 29 and 30.
Measuring cards can be picked up from the fishing club board at the New England Club prior to the competition or at the dam from either Buster or Peter Goodwin. It will end at 11am Sunday morning with cards to be handed back in with a presentation and barbecue at the New England Club at 4.30pm Sunday.
Other upcoming events are our charity golf ambrose on November 23, our Christmas party and kids presentation at the New England Club on December 13, and a family fishing competition on the long weekend in January at Copeton dam. Keep a look out for more details.
Don’t forget our great meat raffles every Friday night and joker draw now standing at over $2000 at the New England Club hope to see more members supporting our great fishing club at the upcoming events.
