NEC ends Tavern's winning streak

20/11/2008 9:38:00 AM
At King George Oval Railway Tavern suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of NEC Colts.

Colts were sent in to bat first after Tavern won the toss and lost their first wicket in the third over when Justin Bushell was bowled by Nigel Sharman [1-26]. John Grant made 10 and Aaron Jones 14 before a good 4th wicket stand of 38 between James O`Brien [21] and Jacob Key.

Key went on to make a fine 45 before being bowled by Shad Bailey. [2-26] Tim Croft made 15 and Curtis Pringle remained not out 13 for a valuable last wicket stand of 30 runs.

Colts were all out for 148 in the 28th over.

For Tavern Col Davis continued to take wickets with 3-36 and Luke Morris took 2 -28.

Taverns run chase started impressively with Shad Bailey in fine touch with the bat, his first scoring shot being a big six off just the third ball of the innings.

The first wicket fell in the 5th over with the score at 31 when Phil Shannon was bowled by Tim Croft for 10 runs. Bailey went on to make 40 including 3 sixes and 2 fours] before nicking a catch to the keeper off the bowling of James O`Brien who bowled extremely well taking 3-16 from 6 overs.

James carried over his good form from his previous match where he took an excellent 6 wicket haul over the Golf Club.

Craig Pickham also batted well for Tavern making 28 and along with Neale Smith [21] almost got Tavern home falling just 11 runs short of the total being 8 for 137 after 30 overs.

Once again The Services and Golf Club failed to submit score books to the Tavern at the completion of play so no results are available from that match.

Draw for Saturday November 22

Golf Club V NEC (Lynch Oval)

Services V Tavern (King George)

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
