Members of the Glen Innes VIEW (Voice, Interests and Education of Women) Club celebrated both past and present at their 40th birthday luncheon on Thursday.
In addition to Glen Innes members, National President Brenda Harrold, National Councillor Robyn McGilvray and Zone Councillor Margaret Coyne were all present.
The group welcomed the club’s first inaugural president June Hadley who gave an insight into what it was like when the club was first formed and how it began.
“They originally had an ad in the paper saying that you can raise money by enjoying yourself at a meeting and that sounded good to me. There was only five at the first meeting but after that we wrote out hundreds of invitations to everyone we knew and I think there were 235 who attended the inaugural meeting at the Club Hotel,” she said.
Mrs Hadley also had the honour of cutting the birthday cake in front of the current members.
The luncheon also featured a Salvation Army fashion parade and a vocal performance from 13 year old Caitlin Turner.
The VIEW Club holds monthly meetings and continues the tradition that started in Glen Innes 40 years ago. The women are joined by a guest speaker each month and through these enjoyable dinners raise money for the Smith Family and Learning for Life.
