Jockey club saddles up

11/11/2008 9:22:00 AM
It is time to get back on the horse as preparations for the 2009 Glen Innes race meeting continue to gain pace.

The Glen Innes Jockey Club is in the process of planning the January 10 race day, and is putting the call out for support from both individuals and businesses.

Club representative Brendan Campbell said the annual general meeting will be held on Thursday night and a fresh perspective is welcomed.

“Our AGM is on Thursday at 7.30pm and we need some new ideas and fresh legs in the lead up to our next race meeting,” he said.

“Sponsorship is also now open for next year’s cup and the draw will be held on December 11 for the naming rights to the 2009 Glen Innes Cup. Entries will close on December 10 so we would love businesses to get in as soon as possible.”

The day has received great success in recent years and as a result the club has chosen to invest funds into the upgrading of its toilets that will now provide disabled access. The upgrade comes two years after the refurbishment of the bar and Mr Campbell said works should be complete by the January race day providing there are no hold ups with the council approval.

16/12/2008 | So we now have desperate parents attempting to bribe teachers to get their children into a selective high school. What a sad indictment of our education policies, the holy grail of which is parental choice.
