The Freemasons are going bald for a cause.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave on March 13 to 15 members of the local Freemasons Lodge will have their heads shaved or hair coloured during the Glen Innes Hospital fete on Saturday March 15.
“To my knowledge no other organisation is doing the challenge this year,” Freemason Dr Ross Harron said. “We want to throw the challenge out to other groups or individuals to become involved.”
The Worlds Greatest Shave asks community members to shave their head or colour their hair to raise money for some 3100 Australian’s who will be diagnosed in NSW and the ACT with leukaemia, lymphomas, myeloma and other related blood disorders this year. The funds raised from the event go towards the care and cure of these patients and their families.
The freemasons will arrange for Glen Innes hairdressers to shave their heads at the fete and also cut hair for fete attendees with the proceeds from hair cuts to be divided between the Leukaemia
Foundation and the Glen Innes and District Hospital.
“It’s a good way of raising awareness, as it is the major fundraiser for the leukaemia foundation,” Dr Harron said. “It’s a good cause and a bit of fun.”
